Super-Charge WordPress Out-Of-The-Box For SEO

December 22, 2009 by admin Comments Off

WordPress out of the box provides primary management of the main SEO meta information. To expand the functionality we add our own super-charged version of the All-In-One-SEO Pack. The SEO pack makes it easy to change the page title and page meta description.

The All-In-One-SEO Pack is a great WordPress plugin that completes the SEO aspects for WordPress. For some reason WordPress still has not got the SEO fixed out of the box.

The All-In-One-SEO Pack provides for you to change the most significant page elements – page title and page description. It also allows you to change the page keywords, but as we all know, search engines no longer take note of these because they have been spammed too much in the past. Google stopped using the keywords for page ranking in the early 2000′s.

Page Title HTML tags

This is the No1 SEO element to manipulate. Constantly make sure that you control the page title. The page title appears in the browser window at the very top of the screen. Search engines use this in the listings and display it in their search results.

Always try to make the page title only carry the keywords you want the page to rank for. Try to restrict them to 2 or three maximum.

Just like with a book the page title of an HTML page is the most important component. Never leave this element to chance. Make sure you use keywords in the title.

If your page needs to extend to cover 2 or three keywords we have found that you can still get great rankings from adding multiple keywords to the title. However, always try to make the page title as close to the keyword you want to rank for. Adding extra non-beneficial words detracts from the results achieved.

Even though it’s best to keep the page title just to the keywords you want to rank for, if you are a branded company you will also most likely want to add in your brand name so that it shows up on Google in your listing.

Page Description Meta Tags

This element is NOT used by search engines for ranking purposes. Even So, most search engines will employ this in their search results so it is important. We have discovered that Google will use the description most of the time. We have not yet learned how it determines if to use it or not. The rest of the time it will pick up the first piece of text on the page.

By having a good description it will increase your click through rates because the text will be more engaging to people. Ensure that you use a maximum of 156 characters. If you use any more characters Google will cut short the rest. If you can keep your descriptions to–0 characters or less this is even better seeing Google sometimes adds a date to the start of the description which is part of the 156 characters it displays.

Changing the meta data and page title

At the bottom of every page and post you will find the meta tags plugin details. Update the details appropriately. Note: If you can only use see the title for the plugin and no details, just click the title and the section will expand.

How to Tap the Ideal Search Engine Marketing Company for Your Goals

September 12, 2009 by admin Comments Off

Considering which search engine marketing company (SEM) you should chose is no easy thing. The first company you find is not always the best to meet your needs, which is why it is wise to take your time in choosing a SEM. That way the company you decided on doing business with will be one to accommodate your needs.

Choose a SEM Company You Trust

The most important thing you can do is to make sure you have picked a company you can trust. You should meet and mingle with a few other companies and talk about planning before you get into the detailed planning. Your business and the company you chose will now have a relationship between one another, and as this relationship continues to grow, information essential in making your business thrive will be released. If you cannot trust the people you are doing business with you are risking your financial well-being.

To help gauge whether or not the search engine marketing company can be trusted, ask them to provide references. If they are reluctant to provide references, this is a major red flag, as any search engine marketing company with experience and a good reputation in the industry should not fear this. If the company doesn’t have references to provide due to a lack of experience, you’ll need to proceed with caution and gauge other aspects of the interview to determine if they are worth the shot.

Next, ask yourself if the search engine marketing company answer all of your questions to the fullest possible extent without dodging any aspect? If the company is willing to provide any information you ask for without hesitation and willing to fully explain the process, it’s a safe bet you can trust them.

If the search engine marketing company tries to pressure you into anything or services you don’t need or understand, do not trust them. However, understand that sometimes they will point out problems with your site. If they are big problems, then you should correct time because there is no point in paying for advertising is your site cannot convert interested visitors into paying customers.

Identify the Services You Need

Not all SEM companies are all equal to each other. Though many of the basic services are similar like search engine optimization, pay-for-inclusion services, pay-per-click advertisement. Several different things are involved with Search Engine like site re-design to new marketing and content for building back links-Links from your site to other reputable sites to help increase your rankings naturally. In pay-per-click campaigns, your company will be advertised in the search engine results page on the sidebars, and each time the ad is clicked, you will have to pay. The Pay for inclusion services will allow you to pay for Search engines crawl a certain amount of pages on your website with a specific frequency.

Find a Comfortable Risk Level

Any search engine marketing plan will require an investment before knowing if and how much money the company will earn back in new customers and sales. It is important that you determine beforehand how much risk you are willing to take. Do not let the company pressure you into more.

Take your time in finding and choosing a search engine marketing company. Because of the investment and importance of the business relationship, this is something that should not be rushed into if you expect the best possible results. The search engine marketing company you ultimately choose should understand and be willing to help you with any aspect of making the decision on the right company for your needs.

Search Engines Explained In Basic Terms

August 24, 2009 by admin Comments Off

A search engine, such as Google and Yahoo, are tools that allow users to find information on the World Wide Web by searching with a specially designed tool. The results of a search are organized into a list which includes web pages, information about them and links to them. In some cases, it includes images. Search engines are operated algorithmically in conjunction with human editing.

A search engine uses web crawling, indexing and searching in that order to provide the most accurate results related to a particular search. Search engines work by storing information about millions of web pages that can be retrieved at the request of its user. The web crawler, or “spider,” is used as an automated web browser. It follows every appropriate visible link. The web crawler analyzes the contents of each link to determine how the pages should be indexed.

Mata tags and even words from the webpage are studied to classify the webpage and its content. All these data are stored for future usage.

Companies such as Google store all or part of the source web page, while AltaVista stores every page word for word. The information stored and indexed is known as the cache, it allows for instant updating and keeps the searching filtered with ease. An important factor for a successful search engine is its ability to provide active and useable information with minimal to no linkrot. The cache also saves an archive of a removed source that can later be access by the user after the site is updated.

Search engines will examine keywords entered by the user and obtain a list of organized search results. Summaries may also accompany web links on the results page.

All the search engines look to enhance their performance by ensuring that they deliver exactly what the user looks for. The problem is accentuated by the abundance of web pages containing the keyword or the keyword phrase. However, by using web crawlers and indexing, search engines manage to filter all the sites that are irrelevant to the search being made even if it has the keywords. They have created their own unique processes for examining different web pages and their contents.

Increasingly search engines have been implementing a page ranking system in which each page’s descriptions, keywords and content are scanned for relevancy to the inputted keyword and their index. Pages with higher ranks get seen more often at the top of the list. If a site is linked to a high ranking website that site receives a vote that increases its ranking.

Toolbar Sponsorships with Unique Placement: Avoid SEM Scams

April 13, 2009 by admin Comments Off

You see them all the time – the ads promising top search engine placement. “Buy This Course That All the Top Online Marketers Don’t Want You to See.” Here’s another one – “This e-book Will Solve All Your SEO Problems.”

If all the claims by the search engine gurus promising top placement were true, would there ever be any hope outside of them and their services? And even if we employ them, we’re still going to be at the mercy of flying blind to some degree – Google isn’t going to publish there ranking formula any time soon and there’s only so much room at the top.

And Pay Per Click? You can pay top dollar with PPC but, from the experience of many, it’s hit and miss when it comes to success. Sometimes it works and then other times it fails to provide good ROI. All the while your bank balance erodes at increasing speeds.

Here’s a dirty little secret that you may already be aware of: Did you know that all one of your competitors has to do is just sit there and click away on your ad – or ever more dastardly, pay some to do it for them – and your cost will go through the roof? Even with the so-called click fraud detection on the search engines, most click fraud is not filtered. PPC is Pay Per Click not Pay Per Visit. Think it doesn’t happen? Think again

So what’s a good alternative? One alternative is to use Unique Placement toolbar networks to guarantee your position and traffic at a fixed cost.

Unique Placement markets sponsorships on various toolbar networks that enable advertisers to dominate fractions of the marketplace by inserting their company below the toolbar but above the Google, Yahoo, and MSN top search results – essentially creating a visual number one position – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The sponsorships, by design, are limited to a specific audience, however, more often than not, they are able to provide top positions on Google, Yahoo, and MSN (as well as others) at a fraction of the higher paid sponsorships.

In one recent case study, a Realtor who was paying an average of $2.50 per click to acquire a site visitor, found a far better cost for visitors to their web site using toolbar sponsorships. By leveraging Unique Placements toolbar network, they were able to lower CPV (cost per visitor) substantially.

Leveraging toolbar networks is one way that you can get featured on Google, MSN, Yahoo and the other search engines without breaking the bank. It’s a sound concept that employs the original search engine marketing concept – give away great free technology, and the advertising model is born.

What’s in it for you? Why allocate some advertising and marketing dollars to toolbar sponsorships? By doing so, it allows you to not only get a guaranteed traffic and position on Google, but focus on what you do best and growing your business. You can follow up on leads instead of trying to generate them.

Don’t fall victim to all the so called SEO/PPC gurus that promise the world but rather cost you a fortune. There is an easier and more affordable way.
