Razor Kick Scooters

September 20, 2009 by admin Comments Off

The Razor kick scooter is the present-day counterpart of the type of scooter that has been about for 50 years or more. In actuality, kids have almost certainly been fixing boards to wheels ever since scrap wheels became available. As with those classic scooters, the Razor kick scooter is propelled forward by foot power. That is, you put one foot on the board and push forward, or in other words kick back on the ground with the other.

This way of propulsion makes the Razor kick scooter an idyllic mode of transport, training and fun for children of all ages. In fact, Razor do not advocate a Razor kick scooter for the under fives unless supervised and say in their manual:

“Children under age eight (8) should ride with adult supervision at all times. All children and preteens should ride with adult guidance at all times”.

This appears somewhat harsh to me and is probably an instance of over-caution because of the litigious society we live in. Just try suggesting to a twelve-year that you have to employ guidance on all of his or her trips!

Having said that the Razor kick scooter comes in roughly seven different guises. There is the Kiddie Kick scooter for the under fives. It is constructed of tough plastic and has a third wheel for greater stability.

Then there is the ‘A’ series of Razor kick scooter: the A, A2, A3 and AW. These models are approximately equal to a child’s growth in size, ability and experience, although the highest recommended weight for all three models of Razor kick scooter is 65 kilos or 143 lbs.

The Razor kick scooter Pro is a jump up in know-how and so has more capabilities. It can be used for extreme sport and will carry a rider weighing up to 100 kilos or 220 lbs.

Last, but not least, is the Cruiser Razor kick scooter. It will take 79 kilos (175 lbs of weight and has larger wheels as it is meant for relaxed cruising about. The larger wheels signify that you won’t be aware of any bumpy terrain beneath you while you are on this Razor kick scooter.

All of these Razor kick scooters share comparable characteristics. All of these models of the Razor kick scooter are of very rugged assembly and all but the Razor Kiddie Kick scooter are manufactured of high-grade aluminium and are built to last.

These Razor kick scooters have extendible steering rods, which means that they can be pulled up to grow with your child or can be shared by children of different sizes. They also share a tough braking system which is operated on the rear wheel, rendering them ultra-safe for operation in the vicinity of pedestrians.

A Razor kick scooter begins at about $45 and so is an inexpensive way for you to make certain that that your child gets regular exercise, gets out from behind his computer, gets some fresh air and sunlight and learns about consideration while having fun being mobile. Besides all these advantages, a Razor kick scooter will give your child fond memories to look back on for the rest of his or her being.

Home Schooling and the Study of History

July 8, 2009 by admin Comments Off

Do you think that passing time in traditional classrooms is a waste of time? For some people, that is probably true. For example, a test is due and the pupils are asked to memorize a lot of dates and names. However, after taking the test, they will definitely forget 90% of those dates and names. That’s what most students do when they have tests. If you are one of these people, you will find traditional history lessons boring, so home schooling, which focuses more on the history of the world, will surely interest you more.

Just simple memorization is not enough to realize the importance of historical, famous people and fateful events. Through home schooling in history, you can learn about the different cultures of the past in a different, but interesting way – that is your own way! By the study of history, you will also realize the current situation of the world.

But, if you think that home schooling is the best option for your child’s learning, you should also be prepared to undertake some responsibilities. Since there will be no teacher physically present, you will have to oversee your child’s learning development by yourself.

Let’s say your kid is interested in a particular sport. You could combine history and home schooling by just putting a map on the wall of your child’s bedroom and mark the location of his favourite sports team. Make sure that you track all the team’s games, scores, activities and schedules. Then, you could go back to history lessons by reading biographies of the different athletes, who had been famous in the particular sport that your child follows. Apart from that, you can also examine the history of that specific sport and discover where it originated, its inventor, and the other things happening in that particular time in history.

For example, if your child likes baseball, you could teach your child about the history of Negro Leagues, government hearings on the use of steroids, and other favourite pastimes at that time. Just remember that you can apply this concept to any interest such as dances and inventions. You can also have conversations with your child concerning current affairs or read interesting historical works and other books. Aside from that, you can also watch documentaries together with the rest of the family. There are various resources that you can use in home schooling, such as TV, maps, books, a globe, an atlas, and encyclopedias. Due of the exciting adventures that you and your child will read about and see on film, your child will find it easier to remember the names and dates of the history lessons. After all, education is better when it is done in a fun way.

These methods are advisable if your child is still young, however once your child is older, you should choose a home schooling program that is suitable for his/her age group. The programs are available at the elementary, high school, and even college levels. You simply have to search the Internet for these various programs. One advantage of these programs is that you can tailor them to fit the requirements of your child. However, you must see to it that all the lessons are followed by your child.

After you and your child decide to give home schooling a shot, you must be ready to make some changes to your lifestyle. The learning will now take place in your home not at a remote school and through the various resources that you want to use, which should include a computer and the Internet.

Child Safety Online

June 3, 2009 by admin Comments Off

What is there to say about the world children live in these days? Sexed-up television, pornographic Internet sites and videos and violent board games. A world that is lowering its standards, values, and morals each day, surrounds our children.

What makes it even worse is that we cannot use Parental Controls any more to stop our children from visiting websites of an adult nature. These days children are knowledgeable about technology and sometimes more so than their parents. How can we keep our children safe from Internet dangers? How can we as parents provide safety for our children, while still battling the corruption going on around the world?

Parental Controls are available on most types of Internet software, yet today, children are skilled at by-passing these Parental Controls. So, what can we do? We can protect our children by monitoring their activities on the Internet closely.

How to use parental controls: It depends on which Internet provider you have, however, I will speak only of the Internet providers I am aware of, since all programs are different. To use AOL Parental Controls, you will need to go to Safety at the Toolbar and click on Parental Controls.

Once you get there, you will see a drop-down list of available usernames. Search for your child’s username and click on the username. You will see a popup window appear. Click on ‘Edit Web Control’ and then click ‘Kids Only’, and close. Now your child is protected against Internet sites that hold potential dangers.

Chat rooms pose serious threats to children, since anyone can go into these rooms. Often predators frequent these areas, so as to entice children into a web of danger. In the AOL program, click on ‘Safety’ and then click on ‘Parental Controls’.

In the same way, click on the ‘Edit IM Controls’, ‘Edit E-mail Controls’, and ‘Edit Chat Control’ and follow the same steps as you did to instigate the ‘Parental Controls’.

It is a good idea to install passwords. Passwords will offer additional protection and safety for your child. Do not give the child the passwords, because this will give the child control over the Internet connection, and the child might also reset the controls.

It is also wise to activate your ‘Popup Controllers’ too, since if you do not turn on the controls, pop ups could carry a virus that could corrupt your computer or popup adult content, which your child will see if online. You can go into ‘AOL Safety’ at the toolbar to set these popup blockers.

If you use Internet Explorer; open a page. Click on ‘Tools’ at the top menu, then click ‘Popup Blocker’ and then click ‘Popup Blocker Settings’. Read the information carefully and set the program at medium. Medium is standard and will block most pop ups. If you put the settings higher than medium you could find it difficult to open websites for browsing.

Some of the dangers posed to children online include: Internet Porn; Child Porn; Child Sexual Abuse; Mobile Porn; and more. As you can see, your child is at serious risk, and if you want to master safety, you have to monitor, and take the steps to safeguard your child against online dangers.

According to recent studies, students have encountered sexual malpractices through webcams, instant messengers, and mobile phones. Further studies reveal that pornographic websites are making more profit than each of CBS, ABC, and NBC television channels in a year. The studies say that the largest group that views porn sites are children and that these children are typically between the ages of twelve and seventeen.

The results revealed that around 74% of all the porn sites had unmonitored banners, while another 66% of the websites did not give ‘adult content’ warnings. Moreover, another 11% of the sites did not have ‘sexually explicit content’ warnings and 25% boxed in their visitors by not letting them leave their websites. Only 3% of the websites out of more than 14 millions adult websites requested adult permission for minors to visit. So, protect your child now!
